Growing up nonverbal, I was told by Doctors that I was on the severe end of the autism spectrum. Today I’m a professional speaker who highlights stories of those impacted by a diagnosis. I’m also a 3rd year doctoral candidate who hopes to graduate in May 2019 (fingers crossed).
Haley Moss has a similar story. She too was nonverbal for the first years of her life and in an interview she did with TODAY she said that, “My parents were told I would be lucky to have friends or even hold a minimum wage job.” I have talked to her about doing an on-camera interview with her to highlight her story on our A Special Community Facebook Page the next time I am speaking in Florida!
How great is this? CBS News also did an impressive video on Haley’s story you can watch below to learn more about her. She is now a practicing lawyer!
You can read about Erik Weber who is a young man on the autism spectrum who also passed the bar here. Way to go Haley! Keep up the great work!

I have a six year old grandson on the spectrum. He was diagnosed as high functioning, but non verbal. He is now speaking in small sentences and being more vocal. Is there anything you could recommend that I could do to help him speak more?
I actually used to be nonverbal till I was 2.5 and didn’t start talking in complete sentences until I was 5. Honestly, theatre therapy was a big help as it helped build on my communication while also boosting my self-confidence. This list is a fantastic resource on to help your nonverbal child speak here: https://www.autismspeaks.org/blog/2013/03/19/seven-ways-help-your-nonverbal-child-speak Hope this helps. I take the time out to answer about 300 emails a day so if you’d like to help me as well for taking time out to answer this email I’d consider a donation to my special needs nonprofit as the highest compliment: https://kfmmakingadifference.org/donate/ A referral of a group who would like me to speak would be a wonderful contribution as well. They can contact me anytime on my contact form at my website at http://www.Kerrymagro.com/contact Best, Kerry
