New Program Offers Autism-Friendly Dinners at Several Restaurants

A new initiative in Massachusetts called ‘Autism Eats’ is helping autism families go out on the town with other autism families to restaurants for a sensory-friendly eating experience! Started by Lenard and Delphine Zohn started this ‘supper club for families with children on the autism spectrum’ based on their own experiences with their son Adin who has autism.

Recently they had a crowd of just about 75 people attend one of their events at Andolini’s Restaurant in Andover, Mass. where Lenard told the Boston Globe, ‘We knew exactly what didn’t work, so we felt if we could reverse that, we could . . . allow everyone to be successful when they wanted to go out.’

Hillary Minicucci who has a 3-year-old son with autism has been able to visit of the Autism Eats events with her family. She told the Boston Globe about the experience, “He can be himself and we don’t have to worry that we’re bothering anyone else’s dinner.”
