Teen with Autism Graduates with 4.0 GPA; Announced as School’s Valedictorian

One of our favorite stories from the past few years comes from Montel Medley, a 17-year-old with autism who in 2014 graduated from Surrattsville High School with a 4.0 GPA. Because of his academic achievements he was announced that June as his class’s valedictorian. He earlier in that school year announced that, after receiving an acceptance letter from Towson University, would be attending their program in the Fall.

Montel told The Washington Post about graduating,  “I followed directions, I paid attention to my teachers, and I did the work. And I’m planning to do well in college, too.”

We wish Montel nothing but the best. Graduating with a 4.0 GPA is quite the achievement and we couldn’t be happier for you! I ended up graduating high school with a 3.93 GPA and have to say it’s quite the feat.

You can read more about this story at The Washington Post here.

We currently give talks in the school systems to better educate our communities about autism, disabilities and bullying prevention based on our experiences growing up on the autism spectrum. Want to collaborate on an event at your child’s school? Contact us here for more information.
