What started out as a college elective for several students at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville turned into an opportunity to build toys specifically for children with disabilities. As CNN reported this ‘toy workshop’ started with students learning more about disabilities, and with the help of their teachers, modifying several toys to help benefit those with special needs.
Kaitlin who has a 4-year-old son with a disability who received one of the toys told CNN, “I think this will give him a good confidence boost and open him up to more social situations as he kind of avoids other children right now.”
Way to go University of North Florida! We hope more colleges will follow your example as we need more inclusive toys out there for kids with disabilities to play with today. We now give talks on inclusion in schools and to businesses alike based on our experiences growing up on the spectrum.
