How awesome is this! And that’s only the beginning of the films and TV shows that they have worked on.
When I speak around the country as a professional speaker I often share a Temple Grandin quote in my presentations about how ‘interests and talents can turn into careers.’ The group Exceptional Minds, a studio for artists with autism I feel like is a perfect example of this quote.
While working on my dissertation research I was watching NBC and saw a feature on this terrific group on NBC’s show ‘Sunday Closer.’ You can learn more about their story in the video below…
Over the years Exceptional Minds has worked on 84 films and 44 TV’s shows. Most of the jobs they are employed to do involve the behind the scenes work creating effects. You can learn more about their group at ExceptionalMindsStudio.org.
When I think about employment for those on the autism spectrum I think our businesses need to think more about what the person with autism can do for the company versus what the company can do for the person with autism. When I give talks as part of Lunch-And-Learns and other special events to big businesses this is a key theme I try to get across. For many who have a key interest in a specific field it can make them a huge asset. My love of theater for example has helped me in my career as a professional speaker who is also on the autism spectrum. 500,000 children with autism will reach adulthood within the next decade and employment will be possible for some if given the opportunity.
Wonderful job Exceptional Minds! Keep it up!
