What a great story! Christian Moore, a 8-year-old attending Minneha Core Knowledge Elementary went up to a classmate who was on the autism spectrum and crying and decided to try and console him by holding his hand and walking him inside of the school.
As someone who grew up with autism, the transition back to school was always a significant challenge. I often would feel like this boy did. Social stories and other means would sometimes help me in this situations but having a peer who cares would have made a huge impact as well. Now as an adult I’ve overcome most of my challenges to become a professional speaker. I give talks in the school systems about bullying prevention, inclusion and being kind to others and I hope to share this story in a few of my presentations moving forward.
We need more kids who get it like Christian. You can check out Courtney (Christian’s mom) Facebook post to read more about this wonderful story.
