Over the weekend I was granted the amazing opportunity to be the recipient of the first ever Spotlight Award for my work as a male mentor in Jersey City. The Hudson County Spotlight Youth Theatre & Orchestra who’ve been doing incredible work to help young individuals in our community presented this award to me.
During the award ceremony I was given a few minutes to talk about the importance of being a mentor. I’ve always believed that it takes a village for us to get anywhere we want to go in our lives and with that I took some time out to thank the people who had become a part of my village such as Bobby Stewart, Nick Chivroletti, Jerry Walker and many more.
I also took the opportunity during my talk to address the tragic story of Kenneth LeRoy, a 16-year-old with Asperger’s who wanted to make a difference in the lives of others and committed suicide. Too many of our kids are being bullied and I hope as the future mentors in our community I can help spread awareness for the need for anti-bullying campaigns.
Thanks to everyone involved with this wonderful event and this beautiful acknowledgement!
