Why I Wanted to Become a Role Model for People with Special Needs

Ever since I met Michael Reuter, The Dean of Leadership Studies at Seton Hall University where I went to college, I’ve always believed in the power of helping others through servant leadership. This is something I talked about recently with 280 high school sophomores at Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Foundation of New Jersey’s (NJ HOBY) 3-day leadership seminar at Monmouth University.

NJ HOBY gave me this amazing opportunity to discuss my experiences with group leadership. During my keynote I talked about how I became a leader and how that was influenced through overcoming obstacles growing up on the autism spectrum. I discussed shortly about, when I was in school how I wish I had a role model who was on the autism spectrum that told me that everything was going to be ok. Now I hope to aspire to be a role model for future generations.

I’d like to thank NJ HOBY for having me and I look forward to collaborating with your group in the future!
