This guest post is by Allan Kinyua, a young man on the autism spectrum who was diagnosed with autism at 6 years old and is attending St. Paul’s University in Kenya. Allan is applying for the Spring 2022 Making a Difference Autism Scholarship via the nonprofit KFM Making a Difference started by me, Kerry Magro. I was nonverbal till 2.5 and diagnosed with autism at 4, and you can read more about my organization here. Autistics on Autism: Stories You Need to Hear About What Helped Them While Growing Up and Pursuing Their Dreams, our nonprofit’s new book, was released on March 29, 2022, on Amazon here for our community to enjoy featuring the stories of 100 autistic adults.
Ladies and Gentlemen, my name is Allan Kinyua, a Kenyan citizen who lives and studies in Nairobi. At the moment I’m looking for another job but I am making every effort to look for a job that comes my way. Growing up, I faced learning challenges but with time, I learned to overcome them with support from my Mom, teachers, and friends. Currently, I am a student at St. Paul’s University in Nairobi, Kenya where I am doing my Bachelor’s Degree in Management Science. I have a Certificate in Management from Kenya Institute of Management, a Diploma in Human Resource Management from Kenya Institute of Management and an Advanced Diploma in Business Management from Digital Advisory and Learning Center College in Nairobi. My last job was both as a Projects Assistant and as a Store Manager at Aayden Consulting Limited where I worked from September 2019 to August 2021 when my job contracts officially came to an end.
I am making every effort to look for another job and I trust God for the best because I believe that I have a bright future. I come from a single-parent family and I have 2 elder siblings. I stay in Buruburu Estate in Nairobi City, Kenya. Challenges so far have been financial where I have struggled to raise my school fees every semester especially now that I currently don’t have a job. Speaking of my marital status, I am single and searching and I trust God for a good wife.
I have faced financial challenges in raising school fees for every semester and knowing that St. Paul’s University is a Private University in Kenya, the school fees are a bit expensive. Along the way, I have been forced to take fewer units in the semesters because of financial challenges. I have raised my school fees from my former workmates at Aayden Consulting, personal savings, and also from other friends and well-wishers that my wonderful Mom helped to mobilize through a WhatsApp group that she created in March 2021.
I am enjoying my studies so far and I’m happy to report that I have covered 63.63% of my coursework attaining a Provisional Mean Grade of 63.14% which is a Second Class Honors Upper Division. I did my end-of-semester exams in April 2022 and I trust God for excellent results come the end of May 2022 when the University releases the results. With only 3 semesters remaining in my studies, I am looking forward to the best in completing my studies and hope to graduate in November 2023.

My name is Kerry Magro, a professional speaker and best-selling author who is also on the autism spectrum. I started the nonprofit KFM Making a Difference in 2011 to help students with autism receive scholarship aid to pursue post-secondary education. Help support me so I can continue to help students with autism go to college by making a tax-deductible donation to our nonprofit here.
Autistics on Autism: Stories You Need to Hear About What Helped Them While Growing Up and Pursuing Their Dreams was released on March 29, 2022 on Amazon here for our community to enjoy featuring the stories of 100 autistic adults. 100% of the proceeds from this book will go back to our nonprofit to support initiatives like our autism scholarship program. In addition, this autistic adult’s essay you just read will be featured in a future volume of this book as we plan on making this into a series of books on autistic adults.
