In honor of April being Autism Awareness Month, Mallory Hagan, Miss America 2013, interviewed Kerry Magro, a 28-year-old adult with autism who has become a national speaker and best-selling author to talk with him more about growing up on the autism spectrum. Magro, who was nonverbal till 2.5 discussed with Hagan about being able to speak at over 600 events in the past 6 years as a national speaker on autism awareness.

“I always knew I had special needs, I just didn’t know what that meant. So one day I went up to my parents and asked why I was special and they told me that I had autism.”

The interview was done through Define, LLC, a personal branding company based in New York City that was started by Hagan along with Claire Buffle, Miss New York 2010.

Magro continued, “The main message I hope to give people is hope. When I talk to parents, that’s the goal. We are learning more about autism everyday.”
