As a child he was told he may never walk or talk a day in his life.
Now today as a young adult I can’t say enough great things about Kalin Bennett who just signed a contract with Kent State to be one of the first individuals with autism to ever receive a full scholarship to play Division I basketball!
Through my journey of growing up on the autism spectrum, I fell in love with basketball. Growing up I could tell you all 30 NBA teams and every single player on one of those teams. I used this key interest to play basketball throughout high school and to be my school’s varsity basketball captain during my senior year. I shared a little about my journey with Sports Illustrated and the impact sports can have on people with autism.
To see Kalin now, who didn’t walk till he was 4 and didn’t talk till he was 7, to see his journey continue to Division I Sports is nothing but remarkable. I wish nothing but the best for him as he continues his education as a student athlete. Great things are ahead of you sir!
