I recently stumbled upon this story that was highlighted on WSBTV of Aaron Bulmer, a police officer who jumped into a pond to save a 4-year-old child with autism who was drowning.
I had chills while watching this video. We can’t thank our first responders like Aaron enough for looking out for our loved ones. One thing that I wanted to bring up though is the fact that drowning is one of the leading causes of death for those with autism who wander away from a safe environment. The importance of water safety for those on the spectrum who are sometimes drawn to water is imperative. There are some fantastic resources available on this topic at websites such as Autism Speaks to better educate our community that you can read here. Please pass along these resources if you can!
