For some reason, it was 2 years before this educator, Donna Morgan Hughes was actually charged with this crime….
Hughes was recently arrested after police said that she locked a 5-year-old with autism up in a supply closet, with no lights, for 30 minutes as a form of punishment.
She was suspended for these allegations in March of 2014.
The parents of the 5-year-old are now suing the Greenville County School District.

I know so many amazing educators who I often talk about in talks I give about my journey on the autism spectrum. I spread awareness about this story in the hopes that these types of incidents may be able to be avoided in the future. No child should ever have to endure what this child had to go through. In a Special Education setting myself growing up, I used to deal with sensory issues and being afraid of the dark. I could only imagine having to deal with this situation.
