Why Our Autism Community Loves Brad Pitt

It’s not everyday you see the biggest celebrities come out to support our autism community! But this was exactly what happened Saturday night at Autism Speaks 3rd Annual Light Up The Blues Concert in Los Angeles.

Of the celebrities who came out to raise awareness and funds for a worthy cause were Jack Black, Crosby Stills and Nash as well as Christina Applegate!   Then the big guest surprise of the evening occurred when Brad Pitt was introduced at the event.

Seeing Brad Pitt wear the Autism Speaks puzzle piece, and join several members of our team for this evening, was one of the great moments of my eight-year career as an autism advocate. When I first became an advocate, the big celebrity names I knew were people like actor Ed Asner and NBA Legend Dikemebe Mutumbo.   Since then many more celebrities have given their support to cause. People like Luke Bryan, Deron Williams, Temple Grandin, Bryan Cranston, Jim Parsons, Peter Dinklage, John Mayer, Vin Scully, Morgan Freeman and so many others. What made this appearance more amazing was Mr. Pitt making the effort to support us even after he had taken a fall the day before. Despite the many demands on his time Brad Pitt made the time to support our community.

Then Mr. Pitt did something I truly respect him for by issuing a statement that went out in PEOPLE Magazine when they asked him about the bruises to his face.

“Turns out if you try to stop your forward momentum with your face, the result is road rash. Regardless, I wasn’t going to miss the Autism Speaks benefit – wonderful people and I was honored to be a part of this important event.”

Thank you to Mr. Pitt for helping put autism in the spotlight for this evening and all the celebrities and members of our community who have done the same.
